Grey’s Anatomy Review: Give Peace A Chance

Indeed! Another Thursday, another Grey’s. Give Peace A Chance? To be honest, I’m quite confused by the title, but the episode was, all in all, utterly gripping.

Greys1

This week we saw Derek operate on an inoperable tumour. It would be impossible to describe the intensity of this episode, you simply have to watch it to understand. Simply, there is a cliffhanger feeling to every scene.

Surgery of the Week.

Of course, surgery of the week has to go to Dr. Shepherd.

As Meredith says in the episode, as soon as you succeed on operating on an inoperable tumour, you become a God. And what Derek did seriously was amazing. (I know this is fiction, but if it happened in real life, it would be a mirale.) He operated on a fellow colleagues spine, working mostly by guess work, but he got through it in the end.

The acting and timing of the surgery was perfect, creating really intense drama. Awesome.

Romantic Moment of the Week.

This week’s romantic winner is a bit of a strange one. It involves Derek drawing a huge portrait of a spinal chord on Meredith’s bedroom wall in order to explain to his bed-ridden wife what his surgery will involve.

This doesn’t sound particularly romantic really, but Grey is basically begging Derek to talk to her about his surgery. (She is stuck in bed after her liver operation.) I just thought that it was quite romantic that he would go to all that trouble with writing all over the bedroom wall – which he would later probably have to paint over – and then the fact that he spent so much time entertaining her just tops it off.

Dr. Bailey Moment of the Week.

This week’s Bailey moment has to be when she saved Derek’s ass.

Greys4

At first, he was reluctant to listen, but this week Miranda warned Shepherd that the Chief was just around the corner. She basically kept the Chief from finding out about Derek’s unauthorized surgery, giving him chance to prepare for evacuation of the O.R. and kept him out of trouble. Bailey, we salute you. Well I do anyway.

Quote of the Week.

I’m so tempted to give the quote of the week to Arizona again… Oh, go on then.

Remember when I said that Arizona was the Queen of persuasion? Well here’s another Arizona monologue to back up my theory.

“Dr. Shepherd is operating inside of a man’s spinal chord right now. Even the most minor disturbance could cause him to make a mistake on that patient. A patient who happens to work here and who’s life I would personally like to see Dr. Shepherd save. So no, you don’t get to go in there and be a bully. Not today, Chief. Not on my watch.”

She then proceeds to cry on Callie’s shoulder, but the point is that she actually talked the Chief out of doing something! Like, WHAT?! No one – other than his wife, Adele – orders the Chief around. And Arizona just did it. Next challenge: talk Bailey out of something.

Overall Episode Rating: 9 out of 10: Definitely the best episode of the season so far. Had me hanging off the edge of my seat!
