Up and Above the Rest

UPThis week I went back to being a six year old and went to see new Disney animation ’Up’ at the cinema. Unfortunately, I didn’t see it in 3D, but I really enjoyed the 2D version nonetheless.

Up follows a bitter old man who sets out for Paradise Falls to fulfill his deceased wife’s wishes. Along the way he is joined by the token fat kid Russell, a strange looking bird that goes by the name of Kevin and talking dog Dug. Sounds pretty crazy, right? It’s actually much more normal than it sounds.

The plot is quite unrealistic at parts – did I mention the talking dog? But then again, what Disney movie is realistic? To be honest, the less realistic the film, the better it is. For example, Toy Story is my favourite Disney movie of all time!

It’s not all fun and laughter, however. The very start of the movie offers up some tear-worthy scenes, leaving not a dry eye in the theatre. I’ve heard that even grown men cried watching it!

The animation was immaculate. The graphics really showcased the artistry in the movie and you could see the time and effort that went into production.

After all these years, it’s safe to say that Disney are still Up and above the rest.
