(Yes, I know Tuesday is usually Sopho’s day, but being 18 also means too much homework, which means friends do good deeds for each other once in a while…)
Alright, so everyone loves Glee.
Like, proper loves it. As in, can’t get enough of it.
But really, is it worth all the hype?
I understand that the singing is pretty much amazing, but it’s only so long before you stop finding an extremely camp guy ‘putting-a-ring-on-it’ funny.
The show’s lead singer Rachel (Lea Michele) has a show-stopping voice and that Mercedes lass isn’t bad either.
The best comedian on offer is cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), who comes out with one-liners such as “That was the most offensive thing I’ve seen in 20 years of teaching – and that includes an elementary school production of Hair”.
However, I really don’t understand the phenomenon and I am definitely not a ‘Gleek’.
It’s not amazing, definitely not flawless and I don’t particularly see the originality behind it. It’s basically a musical but with songs that are taken from elsewhere. (For example, the cast have recorded their own versions of ‘Rehab’ by Amy Winehouse and also ‘On My Own’ from Les Miserables.)
I’m not saying it sucks worse than a thirty-year old vacuum cleaner, I’m just saying that I don’t believe it deserves all the hype it gets.
If I had to put it on a scale from 1 to absolutely-freakin’-amahhzing, I’d put it way higher than High School Musical, but nowhere near as high as the Rocky Horror Show.
