I’m gonna go totally cheesy today and re-name this episode ‘Final Heartbreak’ after the Jessica Simpson hit (?).

Of course, I’d be referring to Callie & Arizona when I say this, and hopefully it is the FINAL heartbreak for them, because when (AND THEY WILL!) get back together, they’ll be together for all eternity.

Surgery of the Week.

Only one major, major surgery this week: FAT MAN!

Sorry, Bailey. Slip of the tongue… I’m off the case now, right?

Anyway, this guy is told he will die without surgery and Alex gives him an ass kicking when he tells him how selfish he is being. Fabulously though, he is saved by the surgeons. After he falls over and breaks his ankle. The guys hasn’t walked in 10 years. Why on Earth did these so-called ‘clever people’ let him walk with all that weight? I know why.

Because Callie wasn’t around. Tut.

Romantic Moment of the Week.

Again, this week’s romance was a little more heart-breaking that romantic.

The thing is, it could be said that this was actually quite romantic.

Yeah, so they broke up in the end, but the way in which is was done was perfect. You see, this pair didn’t break up because they came to hate each other, they broke up because they love each other so much. Sound crazy? Well, Arizona explains that she wasn’t comfortable with being the person to stop Callie having a baby, so she sacrificed her own happiness in hope that Callie will find someone who does want a baby.

With a final kiss, Arizona says she will simply see her love at work.

Bailey Moment of the Week.

Right at the start of this week’s episode, Bailey gave a speech about sensitivity skills.

This wins Bailey moment of the week because, well, it’s pretty much the only one. I’m not appreciating this lack of the best characters. (By best characters, I mean Bailey & Cristina.)

Anyway, she teaches the interns and some of the residents about sensitivity skills this weeks for the incoming fat guy. And one by one, she proceeds to kick them off the case as they make rude jokes about him. It’s hilarious anyway.

Quote of the Week.

This week actually had quite a few funny moments, but this section from Little Grey made me laugh.

Melissa: I couldn’t ignore it. After the news, I just had to call.
Lexie:The news?
Melissa: Well, we’re going to have a baby. I’m pregnant.
Lexie: How? Um. Uh. Eh. Um. I mean, wow! Congratulations! That is — that’s joyous news.

The way Chyler Leigh (Lexie) delivers this line to the patient’s wife Melissa is actually hilarious and something we’ve not seen enough of when she’s on screen. And to be honest, it’s what we were all thinking.

Overall Episode Rating: 7 out of 10.

Better than last week, especially because of the last Callie/Arizona scene and the humour, but I’ve seen better from Grey’s. Next week, we see teen star Demi Lovato playing a schizophrenic. Let’s hope it’s an episode to remember.

Hook, Line & Sinner, huh? No, no, no, not on my watch.

This episode is now renamed ‘Bent Not Broken.’ I’ve decided this because of the lovely Arizona’s speech towards the end of this episode. She delivered the line “I’m not broken” so perfectly that I immediately thought to find a song with ‘broken’ in the title. It also helps that Arizona is, well… bent. *silence* Not to be derogatory in any way, of course.

Surgery of the Week.

To be quite honest, I can’t really remember any surgery this week other than this:

Excuse the graphic quality of the above photograph.

I love that freakish stuff always happens at Seattle Grace Mercy West. Can anyone remember the guy with the bomb in his chest? Of course, nothing is simple during surgery, and cardio surgeon Teddy sneezing right on cue during a pivotal moment of holding the body cavity still in order for Owen to extract the hook. Woops.

This results in Derek nearly firing Teddy and giving her job to a more qualified surgeon. Luckily, he declines, meaning that Teddy keeps her job and leaves us keeping our fingers crossed that she and Owen will finally get together! (Again.)

Romantic Moment of the Week.

Okay, this wasn’t really romantic, but actually quite heart-breaking.

After watching Callie & Arizona bicker about having a baby throughout the entire episode, Callie tells her girlfriend that she doesn’t need a baby. Of course, she doesn’t mean it and starts to cry.

This followed by Arizona simply saying the word ‘don’t', followed by a kiss. The kiss itself was very romantic, but mostly, it was just extremely sad that Callie has given up her dream for Arizona. Again, this act seems quite romantic, but anyone who knows Callie’s romantic history will know that she is always the one who has to work in a relationship. Give her a break, Shonda!

Bailey Moment of the Week.

I’m appalled that Bailey actually got less screen time than a freakin’ newborn baby this week. But whatever.

Bailey’s top moment this week was when she told Lexie to stop letting Alex walk all over her.

Lexie realized that they had misdiagnosed the hook in side guy and that he was in fact infected. Bailey simply tells her to stop doing what Alex says because he is giving her sex and do what she has to do for her own career. Right on.

Quote of the Week.

This week, Bailey states the obvious.

You may be thinking ‘then why does she get quote of the week?’ Well…

“I’m Dr. Bailey. I know everything.”

And she so obviously does. The way Chandra Wilson says this line is actually perfect. Comedic timing and all. I gotta say that Bailey remains to be one of my favourite characters, and she has been from the very beginning.

Overall Episode Rating: 6 out of 10.

I actually enjoyed parts of this episode, but it’s general depressive nature has given me cause to give it a lower rating than the last episode. I loved all the drama with Callie & Arizona because it was perfectly acted, but the whole Mark/Sloane/baby thing is getting far too blue now. Let’s move on.

Sympathy for the Parents? Actually, it’s quite a good name. And apparently it’s a Marilyn Manson song. Lovely.

For the purposes of this ‘re-naming the episodes’ gig, I’m going to go a little softer on the rock ‘n’ roll vibe and stick with Guns ‘n’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.

Why? Because this week’s episode was all about everyone wanting babies.

Seriously. We have Callie swooning for a baby, Derek bringing up the idea of babies to Meredith, Bailey thinking about her little boy pronouncing his words correctly and even Alex’s little brother comes to town. Nice links there, Shonda.

Surgery of the Week.

Just had to go for Yang firing a bullet into a patient’s chest.

Resident army experts Teddy and Owen tell the gang that the bullets they’re dealing with are called ‘Devastators’ and Yang moves one too quickly, not knowing that this could cause one to be fired.

The patients lives, but Owen fumes. Teddy however, is more sympathetic with Cristina, telling her that they just forget sometimes that they’re all ‘civilians’. Yeah, super clever civilians who save lives.

Romantic Moment of the Week.

Uhhhhh… Romance?

Yeah let’s skip that one this week. Far too tense for any romance, aside from a few pecks between MerDer and a little tiny sexy scene between Mark and Teddy.

Bailey Moment of the Week.

Bailey becomes, just for a moment, maternal.

Now I’m not a baby person, but watching Bailey talk about how proud you can feel when a little person you created yourself, whether that creation was intentional or not, does something new, it made me a baby person.

Bailey made me a baby person. And if you know me, you know I’m pretty much like Yang: NOT A BABY PERSON. Okay, I’m going to stop putting those 2 words together now.

Quote of the Week.

After Arizona comes into the cafeteria whilst Mark & Callie are having a chat to pick up some pound cake, a little bit of hilarious dialogue comes about.

Mark: So, what exactly constitutes “pound cake?”
Callie: It’s a yellow cake. Kinda heavy.
Mark: C’mon, it’s code for something dirty. You eat her pound cake, she eats your pound cake…
Callie: No.
Mark: Oh please. Tell me it’s dirty because otherwise, that was the most boring conversation I’ve ever been a part of.
Callie: We are talking about pound cake because I want a kid and she doesn’t. And we are not talking about that.

I love the way Mark’s mind works.

Overall Episode Rating: 7.5 out of 10.

Nothing overwhelmingly dramatic or significant went on this week, but it was a neat, tidy and nicely filmed episode. Bravo.

Push. Push? Ehh, another title I don’t understand.

Look at Webber, looking all happy with himself. Yep, he’s happy ’cause Shepherd chose his surgical methods over Hunt’s. Well DUH, the black man always beats the ginger. (No form of ginger racism intended there, by the way, it was just a joke relating to something Webber said in the episode!)

Surgery of the Week.

Not a surgery as such, but this week, Callie made cartilage.

I’m not sure if this is a wholly new discovery or something, but the way in which Callie reacts is pretty much like it’s something that’s never happened before.

And to be honest, making cartilage? Surely that is the work of a genius.

Romantic Moment of the Week.

Not heavy on the romance this week. So I’ll go with a moment that started out romantic and slowly declined into a time of sadness.

Callie & Arizona decide they’re the golden couple at Seattle Grace right now. Which they pretty much are, as we don’t seem to see MerDer an awful lot because of Pompeo’s real life pregnancy.

This is also followed up with the dialogue:

Arizona: You’re amazing.

Callie: We’re amazing.

I mean, that’s romantic in itself, right? Nothing like romance over some newly made cartilage…

Of course, this descends into the unhappiness when Arizona tells Callie she doesn’t want kids. And she doesn’t notice that Callie is actually devastated. Oh dear. We’ll see what happens there.

Bailey Moment of the Week.

Bailey gives in to the cute anaesthesiologist.

Yep, it seems that Bailey finally has a new love interest since her divorce.

Throughout the episode, she was determined that they would not have sex. But the end of the last scene contained some steamy kisses, which looked like they were going somewhere to me…

Quote of the Week.

Again, Bailey wins here.

She gives one of her hilarious speeches to Callie. The Bailey/Callie relationship is actually pretty funny, if you ask me.

Let me tell you a little somethin’ about my ’surgical field’, okay? I prep my surgical field with soap and water. I keep my surgical field the way God made it. I don’t need a member of the Ukrainian KGB waxing it smooth so that it can be mistaken for the surgical field of a 5 year old girl. I am a woman. And a woman is meant to have something on her surgical field. If a man can’t deal with a little somethin’ on the surgical field, a little nature, a little God, then that man has no business getting near my surgical field.

And after that monologue, Callie simply states “Fine! I’m not putting a gun to your head!”

Big lol. Points to anyone who can work out what ’surgical field’ is a euphemism for.

Overall Episode Rating: 9 out of 10. I really enjoyed this week’s episode. Way more than I enjoyed this week’s ‘Skins’ episode. Awesomesauce.

There’s no Grey’s this week (bummer!) so there’ll obviously be no recap until next week.

Alright! Another episode of Grey’s. And what a week.

This episode saw flashbacks of 3 of our favourite surgeons: Miranda Bailey, Richard Webber and Callie Torres. I thought Torres was a bit of a strange choice because she’s not as high profile as the other two, but it worked anyway. Check out 90s Bailey:

Quite hilariously, she went by the name of ‘Mandy’ back then.

Surgery of the Week.

I would say surgery of the week, but it’s really surgery from 5 years ago.

That’s right, we see Callie operate on what I think is a victim of severe polio. I mean really severe. Check out the picture!

Anyway, Callie reforms the bones in this guy’s legs in order for him to walk again. It’s a real tear-jerker. And shows the talent of the surgeons at Seattle Grace.

Romantic Moment of the Week.

Again, more of a sexual moment, but still it was pretty romantic.

Yep, that’s a young Ellis Grey and an even younger Richard Webber getting it on in the on call room. Of course, the pair were cheating on their partners during this time, but it is obvious now why they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. This was a pretty great part to the story.

Bailey Moment of the Week.

Turns out Bailey wasn’t always a hard ass.

That’s right, as an intern, ‘Mandy’ let her resident surgeon walk all over her. Until this moment, anyway.

Bailey took it upon herself to find the real diagnosis for one of her resident’s patients, lashing out at her because she did not do her best to treat her patient. Webber witnesses the whole thing and takes her into his office to tell her what a fine surgeon she will become. Don’t we know it?!

Quote of the Week.

I don’t want to bore you with the details of the quote this week. Because basically, the quote of the week is the Hippocratic oath.

I’ll give you an extract:

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:

I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

Etc… etc…

The oath was recited by (current day) Webber to the rest of the surgeons at Seattle Grace, leaving us all feeling proud to be surgeons. Even though we’re not. But whatever.

Overall Episode Rating: 8 out of 10. Loved the flashbacks this week and Sara Ramirez looked stunning. One of the best episodes in a while.

Oh great, a Valentine’s episode! This must mean a lot of romance. But this is Grey’s, remember? Seems the only happy couples are MerDer and Calzona this week. Derek is finding his second week as Chief rather stressful, anyway.

On with the categories…

Surgery of the Week.

Quite a few great surgeries this week, but I’m going to have to vouch for the arm amputation by Sloane, Hunt and Little Grey.

Seems like a random place to put a severed arm, but they attached it to the patient’s left hip. Why? To preserve it, of course!

Yeah *ahem*… Of course. Don’t ask me how this works, but it seems pretty amazing anyway I suppose.

Romance of the Week.

What did I tell you? The romance was scarce. Makes no sense, seeing as it was Valentine’s Day. But this week, Callie and Arizona finally fixed Bailey up with the hot anaesthesiologist from last week.

Seems that Bailey blushed a little when she told him she liked him. And you should all know that Bailey never blushes.

It was cute anyway, I’m not sure about romantic. Maybe next week we’ll see where that goes…

Bailey Moment of the Week.

Both of Bailey’s greatest moments fall into romance and surgery this week.

So we’re gonna recycle that for the exact moment in which she told the guy, after plucking up all the courage she could muster, that she liked him. Oh, the excitement.

Quote of the Week.

For, I think, the first time, Quote of the Week is won by Grey.

“You’re gonna have to make this up to me with a lot of sex.”

Granted, there weren’t many great quotes this week, but I thought this was mildly humorous, especially for Grey, as she often seems to be the fun sponge among the group.

Overall Episode Rating: 6 out of 10. I had high hopes for this episode because it was the Valentine’s one. I was a little disappointed however, simply because nothing really surprising happened. Let’s hope for better next week.

Last week saw the return of Izzie. This week saw the return of Arizona’s heelies.

Hurrah! We shall rejoice.

As much as I would like to spend the whole review talking about how much I missed those little booties, there are more pressing issues at hand.

Surgery of the Week.

Although it wasn’t really a surgery, Altman notes that Karev performed a miracle this week: he blocked a tear in the main aortic artery.

Now I don’t know a lot about surgery, but Alex’s instinct saw him cut open his patient out of the OR and stick his hands right in there. Turns out, this saved a life. Kudos.

Romantic Moment of the Week.

You know when I say ‘romantic’, I often mean ’sexy’.

And this week, our resident sex-a-holics really lived up to their name.

Yang and Hunt did the deed at least four times during the episode. One of these times saw Yang end up with burns on her behind and another meant that Yang skipped a major surgery, but it was worth it in the spur of the moment.

Too bad it ended in tears…

Bailey Moment of the Week.

There were SO many great Bailey moments this week that it was hard to choose which was best.

In the end, I thought I’d praise the fact that she finally put an end to the looming storyline of how Webber needs to seek help.

We also saw Miranda give the anaesthesiologist a stern talking to in true Bailey fashion, but people have been trying to convince the (ex-)Chief to go to rehab all day, yet Bailey was the only one who succeeded.

Brownie points go to Chandra Wilson (who plays Dr. Bailey) week – those were a lot of speeches, and every one of them was acted with stunning conviction. Awesome.

Quote of the Week.

For the past few weeks, we’ve had large paragraphs of text for our quotes.

So this week, I thought I’d go for one of Robbins’ rare one-liners:

“This really isn’t gunna work for me…”

The fact that these 3 are sharing a bed really is comedic when you cast your eyes and ears on it. LOL-a-thon indeed.

Overall Episode Rating: 8.5 out of 10. Great drama, great acting, great story lines without over-powering us.

Next week, it’s Valentine’s Day in Seattle. But which of the couples will be truly happy?

That's right, Grey's is back! And so are our reviews. Let's see how the ABC show fairs this week.

***WARNING: This post may contain spoilers.***

Phew! After all that holiday chaos, Grey’s is finally back! Thank God. I missed it like a child misses it’s Mother. Seriously.

And look who’s back! For one episode, anyway.

That’s right: the feisty Addison Montgomery, played by flame-haired lovely Kate Walsh. She’s actually in Seattle to take a look at Sloane’s daughter’s unborn baby, who seems to have some sort of lump. But you’ll have to watch Private Practice to find out what happens there!

Let’s crack on with it, shall we?

Surgery of the Week.

This week, Yang gets another surgery all to herself, thanks to her beloved bestie, (or not) Dr. Altman.

God knows what the surgery was in aid of, but Yang stumbles whilst elbow deep in a chest cavity. Altman watches from behind, but doesn’t seem to do anything about it.

Of course, Yang’s slice of red-headed yumminess bursts through the door, trying to persuade Altman to do something to help. However, the two begin to argue and Yang screams for Owen to ‘GET OUT OF HER O.R.!’ Calm down, please!

We later find out that Yang received no help from Teddy at all. Go Yang!

Romantic Moment of the Week.

I’m not sure this is so much ‘romantic moment of the week’, but more ’smokin’ HOT moment of the week.’ But I obviously chose Callie & Arizona’s shower scene.

Yeah, it was pretty much a ‘blink-and-you’ll-miss-it’ moment, but it was also the moment every red-blooded male, lesbian and bisexual was waiting for.

Turns out, they were pretty p*ssed off after Lexie walked in on them, but for a split second, it was damn fine.

Bailey Moment of the Week.

This week, we see Bailey being constantly hassled by Shepherd to start dating again.

When Derek convinces a colleague to ask her out on a date however, she turns him down.

This quote defines the Bailey Moment of the Week: “”It’s devastating, but not completely, because it turns out I like sleeping crosswise in the bed and not having to shave my legs.” MADE OF WIN.

Quote of the Week.

You may have noticed that Yang is forever sucking up to Altman for surgeries. Well this week was no different.

This time, Cristina explains that she’d do literally anything for more surgeries.

And then the fabulous Shonda Rhimes (the lady behind the storyline at Grey’s) leaves us with this cliff-hanger:

Cristina: Wait, wait, wait, wait. No one has ever believed in me like this. You believe in me more than I do. And I need that. I’m going to die here without that.
Teddy: Cristina —
Cristina: You know, just tell me what you want! I’ll make it happen.
Teddy: I want Owen!
Cristina: Fine! Done! Take him!

DUN DUN DUUUUUUUN!

Overall Episode Rating: 7 out of 10. Not the most explosive start to the second half of the season, but it’ll do for now. Kudos to Kate Walsh, obviously.

It's almost the holidays and Seattle Grace do it in style.

***WARNING: This post may contain spoilers.***

Firstly, I apologize for not re-capping this episode sooner. But there’s a new episode this week, so I thought I better do it soon!

It’s the holidays this week on Grey’s – we see right through from Thanksgiving up until New Year. A lot of time in 40 minutes, but they manage!

Surgery of the Week.

This episode was packed with great surgical moments. But in the end, I decided to go with Derek and his brain surgery.

Because the front of the brain was not accessible first time round, Derek, along with Slone, Robbins and a bunch of other surgeons invent a new device that enters the brain from the nasal cavity.

Why does this win surgery of the week? Because they defeated all odds, creating a device that had never actually been tested before and being successful in the end. Would this happen in real life? Probably not.

Romantic Moment of the Week.

Romantic moment this week goes to Yang and Hunt, who practically chew each other’s faces off outside A&E.

In this scene, Hunt explains to Cristina that he loves her because he loves her, not because he owes her anything. This is a moment we’ve all been waiting for, because to be honest, I didn’t really know if Hunt genuinely loved her before this. Aww.

Bailey Moment of the Week.

Once again, Bailey kicks total ass this week.

This week we see Bailey’s Father, after he finds out that she had a divorce months ago and did not tell him. He worries about the welfare of his grandson and his upbringing, but Bailey lashes out at the table, on Christmas days nonetheless, and shows the whole of the Seattle Grace staff (minus Callie, who is working) why they should be afraid of her.

Quote of the Week.

It’s not so much quote of the week, but the best speech this week is definitely the amazing acapella performance in the background by Sara Ramirez (who plays Dr. Torres) who cannot actually be seen when her pipes are giving it their all.

In true Christmas spirit, she sings ‘Silent Night’, which I’m sure you all know the words to, but I’m going to give you the opening lines anyway, just to keep to usual house rules.

Silent night, holy night,

All is calm, all is bright.

That is all.

Overall Episode Rating: 7 out of 10. Not the best, but I really liked the structure and the amount of surgery this week.

Voice recaps the newest Grey's Anatomy episode.

***WARNING: This poster may contain spoilers.***

Well this week’s Grey’s was the most dramatic in a while! A simple prognosis was botched, leaving the Chief and co. to decipher whose fault the mess-up really was.

Anyone who watches Grey’s will know that when they do drama, they do it good. The acting was great this week as tensions rose: fights broke out and even the nicest of people (Dr. Robbins) ended up taking it out on an intern. (The intern deserved it, by the way.)

Again, the episode was not great for my topics (should I change them?!) but I’ll do the best I can.

Surgery of the Week.

There was little visible surgery again this week, so it is no surprise that Bailey was the one to win this category this week.

Excuse the disgusting picture above, but Bailey’s surgery this week involved removing an axe from the chest of a patient. Gross.

Obviously there was no time to get this guy to an O.R. before he bled out, so Bailey performed the surgery right there in the trauma room. You think that’s heroic enough? Then get down and bow before Miranda, ’cause the patient actually lived!

Romantic Moment of the Week.

Romance, romance, where for art thou romance? I’d say there was even less romance this week than there was last week! So what can I scrape together?

Does Karev not being able to concentrate for thinking about Izzie count as romance? Well everytime we saw him this week, he was on the phone trying to get her back, so I guess that counts for something.

Note to Grey’s writers: include at least a little bit of romance next week please, instead of providing us with this desperate idiot.

Dr. Bailey Moment of the Week.

In regards to surgery of the week: Bailey made a serious procedure actually quite, well… humourous!

When one of the Mercy West surgeons faints holding the axe in Bailey’s patient’s chest, Bailey’s first reaction was to shout ‘WHAT DID I SAY?!’ This doesn’t sound funny when you read it, but with Bailey’s accent and brassiness, it was hard not to laugh. She then proceeds to call the same surgeon ’stupid’ repeatedly in her interrogation. I love her.

Quote of the Week.

The quote this week was a long one! In fact, it was more like a monologue.

“We have to make him feel worse before we can make him feel better. So if you’re having feelings, you’re gonna have to shut them down. You need to shut them down and talk to him about his future and remind him that he has one, past all of this pain. And if you can’t do that – if you can’t do your job – then you find someone who can and you send them to me.”

This was said by Arizona to Lexie, after Lexie started crying when the paediatric surgeon gave her orders to comfort the patient. This was my quote of the week, because Robbins seems to be slowly turning into Bailey! It was said with such similarity and a kick-ass tone that I thought only Chandra Wilson was capable of. Jessica Capshaw is surely turning into my favourite actress on the show.

Overall episode rating: 8 out of 10 – the marks all given for the dramatic, cliffhanger quality to this episode. The other 2 points were deducted for not enough Callie and Arizona togetherness.
